Fight Report

In a surprising turn of events at Wembley Stadium, London, Josh Padley secured a unanimous decision victory over the previously undefeated Mark Chamberlain. This junior welterweight bout opened the UK launch of the Riyadh Season and saw Padley emerge victorious with scores of 96-92, 96-92, and 95-93.

Chamberlain, a favourite of Riyadh Season organizer Turki Alalshikh, struggled in his first UK fight in ten months. Padley, the underdog from Yorkshire, effectively disrupted Chamberlain's rhythm, forcing him out of his comfort zone throughout the fight.

The bout was marred by frequent headbutts, which cut both fighters. Padley, however, showed resilience by targeting Chamberlain's body in close-quarters fighting. Chamberlain's attempts to use his size advantage were largely ineffective, and his aggression failed to translate into significant damage.

The fight's turning point came in the eighth round when Padley landed a precise left hook, sending Chamberlain to the canvas. This knockdown, a rarity for Padley, who entered the fight with only four knockouts in his career, significantly shifted the momentum.

Chamberlain's troubles compounded in the ninth round when referee Victor Loughlin deducted a point for repeated fouls. Despite a late surge from Chamberlain in the final rounds, the earlier damage proved impossible on the scorecards.

This victory elevates Padley's record to 15-0 (4 KOs) and marks the most significant win of his career. Conversely, Chamberlain suffered his first professional loss, falling to 16-1 (12 KOs), ending his five-fight knockout streak.
