Josh Padley

Josh Padley, affectionately known as “Paddy,” is a Yorkshire lightweight whose story has captivated British boxing fans and those beyond. Born in Armthorpe and now based in Doncaster, the 29-year-old Padley has established himself as a resilient, hardworking fighter who combines blue-collar grit with technical skill. His journey from working as an electrician installing solar panels to stepping onto the global stage as a professional boxer is the stuff of boxing folklore.

Padley turned professional in 2019 and quickly established a reputation as a tough and durable operator in the domestic scene. He racked up an impressive unbeaten streak, taking the British Central Area Lightweight title in March 2023 at The Bradford Hotel in Bradford and the Universal Boxing Organization International Lightweight title in December 2023 at the Hotel Intercontinental in St. Julians, Malta. His record at that point stood at 14-0, with 4 knockouts, reflecting his ability to both outbox and outlast his opponents. Padley’s style is characterised by a relentless work rate, solid fundamentals, and a willingness to engage in the trenches, making him a fan favourite in Yorkshire and beyond.

In early 2025, Padley’s career took a dramatic turn when he accepted a short-notice challenge to face WBC world champion and pound-for-pound star Shakur Stevenson on the undercard of the Beterbiev vs Bivol 2 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With just four days’ notice, Padley stepped into the ring against one of the best fighters on the planet and lasted nine rounds before succumbing to Stevenson’s body shots. Despite the loss, Padley’s valiant performance and refusal to be intimidated by the occasion won him plaudits from across the boxing world and a life-changing promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. The purse from the Stevenson fight, combined with the backing of Matchroom, allowed Padley to quit his day job and dedicate himself fully to boxing to earn another world title shot and fulfil his dream of becoming a world champion.
