Fight Report

In a captivating clash at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England, Tyler Denny showcased his superiority over Felix Cash, retaining his European middleweight title via a technical decision. The bout, which had the crowd buzzing, was unfortunately cut short due to a severe cut above Cash's right eye, prompting referee Mark Lyson to halt the action in the fifth round.

Cash, a former British and Commonwealth champion, stepped into the ring after an 18-month hiatus, leaving fans and pundits speculating about whether his time away from the ring and his new partnership with trainer Adam Booth would add another layer to his game.

In contrast, Denny had been on a remarkable run, unbeaten for nearly five years and claiming notable victories, including a stoppage of Italy's Matteo Signani to secure the prestigious European title last November. Despite his impressive form, the perennial underdog found himself once again being written off by many ahead of his first title defence.

Cash sought to establish his rhythm from the opening bell, circling Denny and attempting to land short shots. Composed and calculated, Denny responded with a few well-placed southpaw right hooks, gradually finding his way into the fight.

Denny closed the distance as the second round unfolded, transforming the bout into his signature high-paced affair. He connected with crisp left hooks, causing Cash to look disorganised and succumb to Denny's inside game. Amidst the action, Cash emerged from a clinch with a cut above his right eye, which referee Mark Lyson attributed to an accidental clash of heads, despite the apparent cause being a short left hook from Denny.

Suddenly thrust into his first genuine challenge in years, Cash struggled to adapt while Denny settled into the style and rhythm that had recently brought him success. A beautiful left hand over the top from Denny sent sweat spraying from Cash's head, and the champion found Cash's body with fast hooks.

Cash seemed to find his timing in the fourth round, but Denny quickly extinguished any hope with a massive left hook that caught and hurt Cash as the round drew to a close, visibly shaking the taller and naturally bigger man.

Midway through the fifth, referee Mark Lyson paused the action and guided Cash to the ringside doctor to examine his cut. Upon the doctor's advice, Lyson decided to stop the fight. With four rounds completed, the scorecards determined the outcome. Kevin Parker had Denny ahead 49-46, while Victor Loughlin and Lee Every scored the bout 49-47 in favour of the champion.
