Fight Report
Oscar Collazo delivered a masterclass in technical destruction to unify the WBO and WBA strawweight titles, stopping previously undefeated Thammanoon Niyomtrong (Knockout CP Freshmart) in seven rounds. The Puerto Rican's performance is one of 2024's most impressive displays of elite-level boxing.
Collazo established control from the opening bell, utilizing a precise southpaw jab followed by hook combinations. His superior footwork became evident in round four, where his pivoting tactics left Niyomtrong struggling to find position. The Thai fighter's attempts to land his trademark right hand to the body proved ineffective against Collazo's fluid movement and counter-punching.
The fight's complexion changed dramatically in the sixth round when Collazo landed a pinpoint lead right hook that sent Niyomtrong to the canvas. The seventh round brought two more knockdowns: first from another expertly timed right hook, then a finishing sequence combining body shots and a left uppercut that ended Niyomtrong's night at 1:29.
For Niyomtrong (25-1), this marked his first professional defeat and the loss of his WBA title. Collazo, advancing to 11-0 (8 KOs), executed a systematic breakdown of a proven champion, mixing tactical superiority with fight-ending power.
Post-fight, Collazo declared his ambition to become Puerto Rico's first undisputed champion, stating, "We're the king now at 105lbs. Next, I want all the belts."
