Fight Report
Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramírez claimed the WBA Super World cruiserweight title with a unanimous victory over Arsen Goulamirian at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. All three judges scored the bout 118-110 in favour of Ramírez.
Despite moving up in weight to face the naturally larger Goulamirian, Ramírez appeared comfortable and confident from the opening bell. The former super middleweight champion, who began his professional career at 160 pounds, utilized his speed advantage to evade Goulamirian's power shots while displaying a willingness to engage on the inside.
Ramírez's key weapon throughout the fight was his uppercut, which he landed with remarkable consistency, snapping Goulamirian's head back on numerous occasions. The Mexican fighter's chin also proved sturdy, absorbing several clean shots from Goulamirian without ever appearing hurt or hitting the canvas.
Goulamirian, who entered the fight with a 27-0 record and 19 knockouts, appeared to suffer from ring rust, having only fought once since December 2019. The 36-year-old French-Armenian could not adjust his strategy as Ramírez outworked him round after round.
In the later stages of the fight, Goulamirian landed some powerful punches, but Ramírez remained unfazed and continued to press forward, engaging in toe-to-toe exchanges until the final bell.
With the victory, Ramírez improves to 46-1 (30 KOs) and becomes a two-division world champion. The 31-year-old southpaw has expressed interest in eventually moving up to heavyweight, but his performance against Goulamirian suggests he still has plenty of potential at cruiserweight.
For Goulamirian, the loss marks the first defeat of his professional career, dropping his record to 27-1 (19 KOs).
