Saul Alvarez vs Miguel Cotto

On Saturday, 21st November 2015, the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas hosted the highly anticipated bout featuring two of the most talented fighters of their generation, Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. The sold-out event, promoted by MC Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions, Roc Nation Sports, and Clase y Talento, attracted 11,274 spectators, who were treated to an exhilarating display of athleticism and skill. The fight was for the vacant WBC World & Diamond Middleweight Titles, as well as The Ring Magazine Middleweight Title, with Cotto defending the latter title for the second time.

Miguel Cotto, hailing from Caguas, Puerto Rico, entered the fight with a record of 39-4-0, while Saul Alvarez, a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, boasted a record of 31-3-0. Both fighters weighed in at different weights, with Cotto at 153½ lbs and Alvarez at 157 lbs. Robert Byrd officiated as the referee and the fight was broadcast on HBO Pay-per-view.

From the outset, Alvarez and Cotto put on a show for the fans, with Alvarez adopting an aggressive, stalking style while Cotto focused on his technical boxing skills. The Mexican fighter sought to corner Cotto and land heavy blows, whereas the Puerto Rican champion used his nimble footwork and experience to evade his younger opponent.

Burt A Clements scored the fight 118-110, John McKaie 117-111, and Dave Moretti 119-109, all in favor of Alvarez. With this victory, Alvarez secured the WBC World & Diamond Middleweight Titles, as well as The Ring Magazine Middleweight Title, dethroning Cotto and cementing his status as one of the top fighters in the middleweight division.
