On Saturday, June 6th, 2015, boxing fans gathered at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, to witness the fight between Miguel Cotto and Daniel Geale. Promoted by Roc Nation Sports and Gary Shaw Productions, the match aired on HBO World Championship Boxing and showcased Cotto's first defense of his WBC World Middleweight Title. With a record of 39-4-0, Cotto from Caguas, Puerto Rico, faced off against the formidable Geale from Mt Annan, New South Wales, Australia, who held a record of 31-3-0.
Cotto weighed in at 153½ lbs, while Geale tipped the scales at 157 lbs. Harvey Dock was the referee.
Cotto, known for his precise and powerful punches, quickly took control of the fight. He showcased his impressive footwork and speed, moving in and out of range to land powerful blows on Geale. Meanwhile, Geale tried to use his height and reach advantage to keep Cotto at bay, but struggled to find his rhythm against the Puerto Rican champion's relentless pressure.
The turning point of the match came in the fourth round when Cotto landed a devastating left hook to Geale's chin. The Australian fighter went down heavily by the ropes, he was visibly hurt and after taking a nine count on one knee from referee Harvey Dock he rose as Cotto launched a barrage of punches that left Geale reeling. Referee Harvey Dock closely monitored the action, and as Geale fell to the canvas from a counter right hand and struggled to regain his footing, it became clear that he would be unable to continue.
At 1:28 in the fourth round, Dock stepped in to stop the fight, declaring Miguel Cotto the winner by TKO. With this victory, Cotto successfully defended his WBC World Middleweight Title
