Manny Pacquiao vs Adrien Broner

On January 19, 2019, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted one of the most anticipated fights of the year. Manny Pacquiao, took on Adrien Broner in a 12-round welterweight title bout. The fight was promoted by TBG Promotions, Mayweather Promotions, About Billions Promotions, and MP Promotions and aired on Showtime Pay-per-view.

Pacquiao was defending the WBA World Welterweight Title he won from Lucus Mattysse six months earlier, and Broner entered the ring as the WBA #6 welterweight contender. Pacquiao weighed in at 146 lbs, while Broner was slightly heavier at 147 lbs. Despite Broner's ranking, Pacquiao was the clear favorite, having won titles in eight different weight divisions.

The fight began with Pacquiao taking the initiative, landing some significant punches and setting the pace. Broner, on the other hand, was more cautious, relying on counter-punches and moving around the ring. The pattern continued for most of the fight, with Pacquiao being the more aggressive of the two boxers and Broner focusing on defense.

Despite Pacquiao's dominance, the fight went the distance, with the judges awarding him a unanimous decision victory. According to Compubox, Pacquiao landed 112 of 568 punches (20 percent), while Broner connected on 50 of 295 (17 percent). The judges scored the fight 117-111, 116-112, and 116-112 in favor of Pacquiao.

The victory marked Pacquiao's first defense of his WBA World Welterweight Title, and he showed no signs of slowing down at 40 years old. Broner, on the other hand, suffered his third loss in his last nine fights and missed out on a chance to win another world title.

In terms of earnings, Pacquiao earned $10 million plus a larger percentage of the PPV profits, while Broner received $2.5 million and a lesser percentage of the PPV upside. Despite the difference in earnings, both fighters put on an impressive show, with Pacquiao proving that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level of boxing.
