Exhibition Centre

The Exhibition Centre Liverpool, a modern addition to the city’s iconic waterfront, opened its doors in September 2015 as part of The ACC Liverpool Group’s family of world-class venues. This state-of-the-art facility, boasting 8,100 square meters of purpose-built exhibition space, has quickly established itself as a versatile venue for various events, including boxing matches.

While the Exhibition Centre is relatively new to Liverpool’s sporting scene, the city has a rich boxing heritage that dates back decades. Liverpool has been home to numerous world-class fighters and has hosted countless memorable bouts throughout its history. The most notable boxing event held at the Exhibition Centre thus far is the upcoming Matchroom Boxing NXTGEN show scheduled for April 27, 2025. This event will feature the sport’s rising stars, including Beatriz Ferreira competing for the IBF World Lightweight Title and Pat McCormack vying for the WBA Intercontinental Welterweight Title.

Liverpool’s boxing legacy extends far beyond the confines of the Exhibition Centre. The city was once home to the Liverpool Stadium, which opened in 1932 and was the UK’s first purpose-built boxing arena. With its distinctive Art Deco facade, this venue hosted numerous boxing matches and other events before its closure in 1985 and subsequent demolition in 1987. Today, the Exhibition Centre Liverpool carries the torch for the city's boxing tradition, providing a modern arena for the sport to thrive alongside various other events, from comic conventions to immersive art experiences.

The city of Liverpool has produced several world-renowned boxers throughout its history. Among the most famous are John Conteh, a former WBC light-heavyweight champion, and Tony Bellew, who held the WBC cruiserweight title.
