Fight Report

In the chief support of Showtime's headline bout between Nordine Oubaali and Nonito Donaire for the WBC bantamweight title, Puerto Rico's Subriel Matias showed that he is a real force to be reckoned with at 140lbs as he and Kazakhstan's Batyrzhan Jukembayev engaged in the 'Fight of the weekend' at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, live on Showtime.

In a thoroughly entertaining, back-and-forth encounter, Matias scored the only knockdown in the fight in the 4th round, Jukembayev coming back strongly, never giving up on victory even though Matias was looking the stronger as the fight wore on.

Jukembayev's corner informed referee Ray Corona that they were pulling their man out at the end of the 7th round.
