Fight Report
After just ten professional bouts, Rhiannon Dixon claimed the vacant WBO lightweight title with a 10-round decision victory over experienced Argentine fighter Karen Carbajal. The title became available following Katie Taylor's move to Super-lightweight and win against Chantelle Cameron in their rematch.
Despite having no amateur background and only a handful of white-collar bouts, Dixon, a southpaw from Warrington, impressed the judges with her performance. In her favour, the official scorecards read 98-91, 97-92, and 96-93. Dixon improves to 10-0 (1 KO).
In the third round, Dixon dropped Carbajal with a short left hand, igniting the crowd. Although Dixon suffered a cut high on the left side of her head and Carbajal sustained a cut near her left eye due to a clash of heads, both fighters continued to battle on.
As the fight wore on, Dixon, trained by former world lightweight champion Anthony Crolla, grew in confidence and boxed with relaxed composure.
Despite Carbajal's efforts to mount a comeback in the later rounds, landing some right hands and increasing her physicality, it was not enough to sway the judges. Carbajal's record falls to 22-2 (3 KO).
