Fight Report
Raymond Ford (16-1-1, 8 KOs) secured a decisive unanimous decision victory over Orlando Gonzalez (23-3, 13 KOs) at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center on April 6, 2024, marking his return to winning form after losing his 130-pound title to Nick Ball in Saudi Arabia last June.
The Camden, New Jersey native controlled the Southpaw vs Southpaw matchup from the opening bell, scoring knockdowns in rounds two and eight. The first came via a right hook that sent Gonzalez to the canvas along the ropes, while another right hook in the eighth produced a second knockdown as the round ended.
Ford also significantly hurt Gonzalez with a right hook in the seventh round but couldn't secure the finish. Despite appearing close to stopping his Puerto Rican opponent multiple times, Ford was forced to settle for a wide points victory, with scores of 100-88, 100-88, and 99-89.
The bout ended with Ford's visible frustration. He declined the traditional post-fight glove touch after Gonzalez spent the final rounds focused primarily on survival. The victory positions Ford for another run at super featherweight contention following his recent title loss.
