Fight Report
Omar Trinidad (17-0-1, 13 KOs) successfully navigated his first 12-round test, securing a comprehensive unanimous decision victory over Argentina's Hector Sosa (7-3, 9 KOs) in Commerce, California. The judges' scorecards of 118-109 and twin 119-108s reflected Trinidad's technical superiority throughout the "Hollywood Fight Nights" headliner.
A second-round knockdown from Trinidad's right hand, set up by his pawing jab, established early dominance. The bout's complexity increased when Sosa sustained a cut from an accidental head clash in round three, with additional cuts appearing over both eyes following another clash in the ninth round, as ruled by referee Thomas Taylor.
Despite ending his four-fight knockout streak, Trinidad demonstrated evolved ring generalship. His footwork and consistent jab neutralised Sosa's forward pressure, particularly evident in the middle rounds when the Argentine attempted to force exchanges on the ropes. Trinidad's adaptability showed in the championship rounds, where he mixed in lead left uppercuts while maintaining defensive awareness.
Sosa, whose three-fight winning streak ended, displayed durability and consistent aggression but couldn't overcome Trinidad's superior ring mechanics. The Boyle Heights featherweight's post-fight declaration of targeting elite opposition in 2024 aligned with his enhanced tactical approach, proving his capability beyond his previous reputation as a knockout artist.
