Nicholas Walters Outpoints Joseph Adorno In Third Comeback Win

Nicholas Walters, the former WBC world featherweight champion, returned triumphantly to televised boxing after a seven-year hiatus. In a lightweight bout held in Plant City, Florida, Walters secured a unanimous decision victory against Joseph Adorno. In favour of Walters, the judges scored the fight 95-94, 97-92, and 98-91.

Before this fight, Walters had been inactive for six years following a stoppage loss to junior lightweight titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2016. Last year, he made a low-key comeback with two fights against lesser-known opponents in Colombia.

The fight began with a slow first round, but Walters soon took control, establishing his jab and backing up Adorno while landing solid right hands to the body. Adorno had moments of success, particularly in the fourth and sixth rounds, where he landed good body shots and an overhand right that appeared to have broken Walters' nose.

Despite Adorno's efforts, Walters' experience and ring generalship shone through. He maintained a steady pace, varying his attacks to the head and body while effectively countering Adorno's offence. In the ninth round, Adorno was deducted a point for landing a jab after the bell, further solidifying Walters' advantage.

The final round saw Walters showcase his superior skills, landing various combinations and walking down his opponent until the closing bell. Adorno had yet to answer for Walters' consistent pressure and accurate punching.

At 38 years old, Walters displayed the pedigree that once made him a world champion, outclassing the younger Adorno throughout ten rounds. The victory marked a triumphant return to the limelight for the "Axe Man" and could potentially lead to more high-profile opportunities in the lightweight division.
