Fight Report
In Tokyo's Ariake Arena, Naoya Inoue, the world junior featherweight champion, delivered a commanding performance against South Korea's Ye Joon Kim, who stepped in on just 10 days' notice to replace Sam Goodman. Despite Kim's determination, showcased by his last-minute acceptance and intensified training, he faced an uphill battle against Inoue, affectionately known as "The Monster".
From the opening bell, Inoue established control, limiting the space and opportunities for Kim to manoeuvre. The first round set the tone, with Inoue patiently assessing his opponent. The real damage began in the second round when Inoue landed a powerful straight right to Kim's midsection, followed by a deceptive right that broke Kim's defences.
Inoue's strategy in the third involved a precise jab and targeted body shots. However, Kim surprisingly withstood the onslaught to advance into the fourth round. However, Inoue's accurate and powerful combinations quickly dismantled any momentum Kim hoped to build.
The conclusion came swiftly in the fourth round at 2:25. Inoue connected a straight right cross that decisively ended the match, sending Kim into the ropes and confirming the predicted mismatch. Inoue's victory was clinical, moving his record to 29-0 with 25 knockouts.
Post-fight, Inoue acknowledged Kim's courage and briefly shared his plans for 2025, indicating ambitions to fight in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career. His promoter, Bob Arum, echoed these sentiments, hinting at a significant match in Las Vegas come spring, further showcasing Inoue's global appeal.
