Unified WBA/IBF 122-pound champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev made the first defence of his titles at home in front of his countrymen against IBF mandatory contender, Ryosuke Iwasa from Japan.
Akhmadaliev used the boxing skills he gained during his amateur career to outbox the Japanese visitor although, Iwasa kept the fight competitive until the ending in the 5th round which was bizarre. The referee ended the contest in the middle of an exchange that didn't seem to hurt Iwasa who happened to have a good chin.
Akhmadaliev can now look forward to facing some of the division's big names.
