Julio Cesar Martinez stops Joel Cordova in sixth round

WBC World Flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez defended his title for the third time against game challenger Joel Cordova at the Arena Alcalde in Guadalajara, Mexico on a joint Osvaldo Chavez, Matchroom Boxing, and Saul Alvarez promotion, stopping his challenger in the 6th round of an exciting battle.

Cordova took the fight to the hard-hitting champion in a manner that shocked a few experts. He showed little regard for the power of the champion who now has 14 stoppages in his 18 wins and 1 loss record. The tactic didn't pay off in the long run as Martinez caught up with Cordova in the 6th round, dropping him, and then battering him until the referee stopped the fight.

Martinez needs unification fights now as he is a cut above the challengers he is facing at present.
