Johnathan Gonzalez Retains WBO Title With Unanimous Decision Over Rene Santiago

 Jonathan Gonzalez successfully retained his WBO junior flyweight title against a formidable opponent, Rene Santiago, amidst the anticipation surrounding the Amanda Serrano-Nina Meinke main event. 

With a record of 28-3-1 and 14 KOs, Gonzalez emerged victorious through a unanimous decision, with the judges scoring the bout 117-111, 116-112, and a closely contested 115-113. This tactical duel showcased Gonzalez's aggression against Santiago's precision, capturing the essence of a fight that was closely matched yet leaned towards Gonzalez's relentless pursuit.

The contest marked Gonzalez's return to the ring after a hiatus since his notable defence against Shokichi Iwata in November 2022. Santiago, holding a 12-4 record with 9 KOs, stepped up as the WBO interim titleholder during Gonzalez's absence.
