Fight Report
Jamel Herring scored the biggest win of his career so far when he knocked out former two-weight world titlist Carl Frampton in the 6th round of their WBO World Super-featherweight Title fight at Caesars Palace Bluewaters in Dubai, UAE.
Herring was making the third defence of the title he won from Japan's Masayuki Ito in May 2019. His last defence against Jonathon Oquendo in September was less than convincing, leading many to believe that it would be Belfast's Frampton that would come out victorious and Ireland's first three-weight world champion, but, it was not to be, as Herring used his height and reach to good use to keep the Irishamna at bay before scoring knockdowns in the 5th and 6th rounds.
The final knockdown, courtesy of a Herring right uppercut left Frampton groggy as he rose, only to be battered until his corner threw in the towel.
The win opens doors for the 35-year-old Herring who will almost certainly chase a unification match against WBC champion Oscar Valdez.
