Fabio Wardley knocks out Eric Molina in fifth round

Ipswich heavyweight Fabio Wardley took part in his eleventh professional bout against two-time former world title challenger Eric Molina on the Whyte vs Povetkin 2 undercard in Gibraltar and looked like a prospect with a future but, who needs a lot more experience against different styles, as Molina set trap after trap for the 26-year-old who had no amateur experience.

When we saw Molina in Saudi Arabia against Filip Hrgovic who was having his tenth professional outing, we saw how Molina was dominated from the first bell and dispatched in the 3rd round. Hrgovic, of course, had a 26-4 record in the World Series of Boxing as well as extensive international experience as an amateur.

Thankfully, Wardley's youth and not inconsiderable talent got him through when he landed a finishing right-hand moments after being rocked by a Molina right.

Youth prevailed, but let us hope that the long-term plans for Wardley include another ten fights or more against a varying styles of opposition.
