Fight Report
Ekow Essuman is the new British and Commonwealth welterweight champion after stopping Welshman Chris Jenkins in the 8th round on the Joe Joyce vs Carlos Takam undercard at the SSE Arena, Wembley, London.
Essuman, born in Botswana but hailing from Nottingham looks capable of mixing it at a higher level. A former GB Squad member, the 32-year-old has a good boxing brain and coupled with decent speed, power, and footwork looks like he could move on to European or even world level.
Jenkins, who won the British title from Johnny Garton, and the vacant Commonwealth belt against Paddy Gallagher looked in control at times in the early rounds but Essuman then upped the pace and aggression and took over.
It will be an interesting time for the division in the UK if matches can be made between, Essuman, Conor Benn, Michael McKinson, Lewis Crocker, as well as Chris Kongo and Luther Clay.
