Fight Report
In an exciting junior lightweight clash, Mexico, hometown hero Eduardo "Rocky" Hernandez (35-2, 32 KOs) delivered a stunning technical knockout victory over Daniel Lugo (27-3, 18 KOs) from Sonora. The DAZN-televised main event, which featured an all-Mexican lineup, showcased the resilience and determination of both fighters, but ultimately, it was Hernandez who emerged triumphant.
From the opening bell, Hernandez and Lugo engaged in a fan-friendly, action-packed battle. Hernandez, coming off a heart-breaking 12th-round stoppage loss to O'Shaquie Foster in his previous outing, started the Fight with his hands down, seemingly attempting to lure Lugo into over committing himself. While Hernandez displayed effective boxing skills, he initially appeared less aggressive than usual.
The tide turned in the third round when Lugo backed Hernandez into a corner, unleashing a flurry of power punches that visibly wobbled the 26-year-old. Hernandez was forced to retreat and play defence for the remainder of the round.
However, Hernandez bounced back in the fourth round, landing several well-timed uppercuts during an intense exchange in the centre of the ring. This set the stage for a dominant fifth round. Hernandez showcased his impressive stamina and battered Lugo with an unrelenting barrage of power shots for nearly three minutes. Although Lugo survived the round, the writing was on the wall.
While Lugo made it through the sixth round, Hernandez sealed the deal in the seventh. A devastating uppercut hurt Lugo, and Hernandez followed up with another sustained assault of heavy blows, prompting referee Alejandro Lomeli to stop the contest at 2:17 of the round. Despite Lugo's initial protest, it was clear that he had absorbed significant punishment in the preceding rounds.
In his post-fight interview, Lugo acknowledged Hernandez's power, admitting, "It did surprise me how hard he hit." Hernandez, meanwhile, revealed that he drew upon his loss to Foster when Lugo had him hurt earlier in the Fight.
Looking to the Future With this impressive victory, Hernandez has his sights set on a world title opportunity. "I want that world title shot," he declared. "O'Shaquie Foster, Joe Cordina, Oscar Valdez, I just want you to know that Rocky Hernandez is ready for you."
