Fight Report
Dillian "The Body Snatcher" Whyte triumphantly returned to the ring on Sunday night, stopping Christian Hammer in the fourth round of their heavyweight clash at The TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar, Ireland. The fight, which headlined the "Once Upon a Time in The West" promotion, marked Whyte's first appearance since failing a drug test in August 2023, which cost him a lucrative bout against Anthony Joshua.
Whyte, who is now licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, entered the ring to a rousing reception from the Irish crowd. In a nod to his grandfather's homeland, he wore green, white, and gold shamrock-speckled shorts. Despite the warm welcome, the Brixton native was visibly frustrated with Hammer's negative tactics throughout the fight.
The first two rounds saw little to separate the fighters, with Hammer coming out swinging but making little impression on Whyte. As the bout progressed, however, Whyte began to find his rhythm, settling into a groove that Hammer struggled to contend with.
The pivotal moment came in the third round when Whyte unleashed a series of brutal hooks on Hammer's body, eliciting gasps from the audience.
Although there was no indication that Hammer was ready to quit at the end of the round, he remained on his stool when the bell rang for the fourth, prompting the referee to halt the contest.
In the post-fight interview, a clearly irritated Whyte expressed his disappointment with Hammer's performance, stating, "As soon as I hit him, he was negative. I told him afterwards he was a coward, and I mean that." The heavyweight contender lamented the wasted effort he had put into preparing for the fight, only for it to end prematurely.
Buddy McGirt, Whyte's trainer, echoed his fighter's sentiments, noting that Whyte was beginning to implement the strategies they had worked on in camp when Hammer opted to quit. McGirt believes that Whyte should return to the ring before the end of May and that the Brixton boxer will rise against top-level opposition.
With this victory, Dillian Whyte takes a step closer to re-establishing himself as a force in the heavyweight division.
