Fight Report
Derek Chisora's final fight in the UK was a resounding success. He defeated Otto Wallin unanimously on points at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester. The bout, upgraded to an IBF world title eliminator, saw Chisora dominate from the start, flooring Wallin twice during the contest. Despite suffering a cut above his right eye in the fifth round, Chisora continued to press the action, showcasing his trademark continuous forward pressure style.
Wallin struggled to counter effectively. Chisora's ability to work on the inside and land powerful combinations to both the body and head kept him ahead throughout the early rounds. A notable moment came in the ninth round when a sweeping right hand sent Wallin crashing to the canvas, though he managed to rise by the count of eight. Chisora unleashed another barrage in the final round, knocking Wallin down again, only for the bell to save him from further punishment.
The judges' scores reflected Chisora's dominance, with cards of 117-109, 114-112, and 116-110 in his favour. This victory marks Chisora's third consecutive win, following successes over Gerald Washington and Joe Joyce. The 41-year-old's performance was impressive, especially considering he has faced some of the sport's biggest names, including Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte, and Joseph Parker. Chisora's win positions him for a potential world title shot, although he has announced plans to retire after his 50th professional fight, which he intends to have abroad.
The event drew a lively crowd, including notable figures like former world champion Roberto Duran, world featherweight titleholder Nick Ball, Joe Joyce, and Dillian Whyte. Following his victory, Chisora was joined in the ring by rappers Tempa T and Chipmunk, engaging the audience in deciding his opponent for his 50th and final fight.
Otto Wallin, looking to revive his career after a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua, faced a challenging task against Chisora. Despite his southpaw stance potentially causing problems, Wallin could not capitalize on this advantage. The loss moves Wallin to 27-3, and he must regroup and reassess his strategy to return to the title picture.
