Fight Report
At the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Brian Norman Jr successfully defended his WBO welterweight title by defeating Derrieck Cuevas via technical knockout in the third round. This marked Norman Jr's first title defence since being elevated from interim to full champion status following Terence Crawford's move to a higher weight class.
The bout began with both fighters exchanging significant blows. Cuevas landed a notable left hand early in the first round, prompting Norman Jr. to adjust his strategy. By the second round, Norman Jr began asserting control, delivering a series of left hooks that visibly affected Cuevas. A particularly powerful left hook in the closing moments of the second round nearly sent Cuevas to the canvas, signalling a shift in momentum.
In the third round, Norman Jr intensified his offensive, connecting with a left hook that staggered Cuevas. Seizing the opportunity, he unleashed a combination culminating in another left hook that knocked Cuevas down. Although Cuevas managed to rise, he did not adequately respond to the referee's instructions, leading to the fight's stoppage at 2:59 of the third round.
This victory extended Norman Jr's undefeated
