Matvey Korobov

Matvey Georgiyevich Korobov, born on January 7, 1983, in Orotukan, Russia, is a Russian-American southpaw boxer who competed in the middleweight division. Standing 5 feet 11 inches tall with a reach of 70.5 inches, Korobov had a distinguished amateur career, securing gold medals at the World Championships in 2005 and 2007 and the European Championships in 2006.

Transitioning to the professional arena, Korobov made his debut on November 1, 2008, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he achieved a third-round technical knockout against Mario Evangelista.

Over his 12-year professional career, he amassed a record of 28 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, with 14 victories by knockout.

Korobov has faced several world-class opponents throughout his career. On December 13, 2014, he fought Andy Lee at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas for the vacant WBO middleweight title. Despite a strong start, Korobov suffered a sixth-round TKO loss.

He also fought Jermall Charlo on December 22, 2018, for the interim WBC middleweight title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, but was defeated by unanimous decision.

Additionally, Korobov faced Chris Eubank Jr. on December 7, 2019, for the interim WBA middleweight title; however, the bout ended in a second-round TKO loss due to a shoulder injury.

Korobov's final professional fight occurred on December 12, 2020, at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, where he faced Ronald Ellis. The match concluded with Korobov retiring on his stool after the fourth round, marking the end of his boxing career.
