Alexander Besputin’s boxing career is underscored by a robust and accomplished amateur background that laid the foundation for his subsequent professional rise. Born on April 26, 1991, in Kamensk-Uralsky, Russia, Besputin developed within Russia’s well-regarded boxing system before turning pro in 2015. Competing primarily as a welterweight, his stature at 5 feet 7 inches and southpaw stance suited a style centred on technical precision and agility.

As an amateur, Besputin demonstrated early promise through success at multiple weight levels in youth and cadet tournaments. He won a silver medal at the 2006 European Cadet Championships competing at 52 kg in Tirana, Albania. He followed this with a bronze at the 2007 World Cadet Championships at 57 kg in Baku, Azerbaijan. His upward trajectory continued with the 2009 European Youth Championships, where he captured gold at 64 kg in Szczecin, Poland, signalling his status as one of Europe’s top young talents.

Besputin’s more senior amateur achievements solidified his reputation. In 2012, he claimed gold at the Russian National Championships in the welterweight division (69 kg), affirming his ascendancy on home soil. The following year marked a career highlight when he won the 2013 European Championships in Minsk, Belarus, showcasing dominant performances by winning all his bouts unanimously, including victories over top amateurs such as Finland’s Antti Hietala, France’s Souleymane Cissokho, Azerbaijan’s Tamerlan Abdullayev, Ukraine’s Bogdan Shelestyuk, and Germany’s Araik Marutjan.

In the same year, Besputin competed at the 2013 World Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, advancing to the quarterfinals. He won his early fights decisively before being stopped by Venezuela’s Gabriel Maestre. His competitive resilience was again displayed at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he earned the silver medal after winning several unanimous decision bouts against strong opponents, including a repeat victory over Souleymane Cissokho, before losing to Parviz Bagirov of Azerbaijan in the final.

Alongside traditional amateur tournaments, Besputin also gained valuable experience competing in the World Series of Boxing during the 2013–2014 season, representing the Russian Boxing Team. There, he continued his winning ways with points victories over opponents from Belarus, Armenia, and Ukraine, developing skills that bridged the gap between amateur and professional styles.

Transitioning to the professional ranks on December 12, 2015, Besputin quickly built a record characterised by sharp technique and knockout power, compiling an undefeated streak that eventually earned him the WBA (Regular) welterweight title in a unanimous decision win over Radzhab Butaev. Though this victory was later overturned to a no contest due to a doping violation, Besputin returned to ring dominance after his six-month suspension, continuing his ascent in the professional welterweight division.
