On Saturday, 17th April 2004, the Kings Hall in Belfast, Ireland, hosted the highly anticipated rematch between Argentinian Sergio Martinez and England's Richard Williams. Promoted by Matchroom Boxing and with the IBO World Super-welterweight Title on the line, Martinez entered as the defending champion for the second time. The contest was broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Both fighters entered the ring with impressive records: Sergio Martinez stood at 30-1-1, while Richard Williams boasted a record of 18-2-1. The evenly matched competitors weighed in identically at 153½ lbs. Martinez, hailing from Quilmes, Argentina, looked to maintain his momentum following his previous victories, while Williams, a native of Stockwell, London, sought to reclaim the title.
