On Saturday, 20th November 2010, the highly anticipated rematch between Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams took place at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The event, promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Goossen Boxing, featured the WBC World Middleweight Title on the line, with Martinez defending his title for the first time. The match was broadcast on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Sergio Martinez, hailing from Quilmes, Argentina, entered the ring with a record of 45-2-2, while Paul Williams, a native of Aiken, South Carolina, boasted a record of 39-1-0. Both fighters were in top shape, with Martinez weighing in at 157¼ lbs and Williams at 156 lbs. Referee Earl Morton was assigned to officiate the bout.
The fight started with both fighters cautiously feeling each other out, looking for opportunities to exploit their opponent's weaknesses. It wasn't long, however, before Martinez found his opening. In the second round, Martinez delivered a crushing left hook that caught Williams flush on the chin, sending him face-first to the canvas leaving referee Earl Morton to count out the challenger at 1:10 of the round,

After a few tense moments, Williams was able to regain his feet, and ring announcer Michael Buffer confirmed Martinez's victory by knockout in the second round.
This rematch was particularly significant due to the controversy surrounding their previous encounter in December 2009. That fight had seen both fighters trading knockdowns and going the distance, with Williams ultimately winning by a close and contentious decision. Martinez had vowed to prevent a repeat of that outcome, and with his decisive knockout victory, he achieved just that.
