On Saturday, 20th January 2007, Paris Las Vegas hosted Manchester's Ricky Hatton vs Colombia's Juan Urango. The event was promoted by Top Rank, Banner Promotions, and Warriors, and was refereed by Tony Weeks. At stake were the IBF (first defense by Urango) and vacant IBO World Super-lightweight Titles. The match was broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Both fighters entered the ring with impressive records: Hatton boasted a 41-0-0 record, while Urango had a 17-0-1 record. Both fighters weighed in at an identical 139 lbs. Hatton, having moved back down in weight, sought to reclaim his former IBF title, while also defending his Ring Magazine junior welterweight title.
The bout saw Ricky Hatton deliver a one-sided performance against the Colombian champion, who was making his first defense. Despite Urango's muscular and powerful appearance, which he attributes to a childhood spent pulling boulders from a river, Hatton proved to be the more dominant fighter throughout the contest.
After twelve rounds, the judges unanimously declared Ricky Hatton the winner. The scores were consistent across all three judges: Robert Hoyle, Dave Moretti, and Jerry Roth each scored the match 119-109 in favor of Hatton. With this victory, Hatton successfully reclaimed the IBF title and solidified his position as a top contender in the super-lightweight division.
