Hector "Macho" Camacho defended his WBO World Super-lightweight Title against Tony Baltazar on Saturday, August 11, 1990. The fight took place in front of a packed crowd at Caesars Tahoe, Outdoor Arena in Stateline, Nevada, and was broadcast on HBO World Championship Boxing. The fight was Camacho's second defense of his title.
Going into the fight, Camacho was criticized for excessive holding in recent years. However, during the fight, he stood his ground and traded punches with Baltazar. The New York Times reported that Camacho gave Baltazar a boxing lesson and won by unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 116-110, 118-108, and 118-109 in favor of Camacho.
The fight was not without controversy. In the ninth round, Baltazar had a point deducted for a low blow. Despite the deduction, Baltazar continued to fight aggressively but was ultimately unable to overcome Camacho's skill and precision in the ring.
Tony Baltazar was a well-known boxer in the Lightweight division, with a record of 39 wins, 7 losses, and 1 draw in his 47 career bouts. Despite his impressive record, he was unable to defeat Camacho in the ring on that fateful August night.
Hector Camacho, on the other hand, had a long and illustrious career as a professional boxer. He was a three-weight world champion and widely regarded as one of the most flamboyant and colorful boxers of his era. Unfortunately, Camacho's life was cut short when he was tragically shot and killed in 2012.
