Floyd Mayweather Jr. defended his WBC welterweight title against Marcos Maidana in a highly contested 12-round fight on September 14th, 2013, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions and aired on Showtime Pay-Per-View.
Mayweather, who entered the fight as the favorite with odds of 12-1, faced a tough challenge from Maidana, who was the WBA welterweight champion. The fight was closely contested, with both fighters landing significant blows throughout the 12 rounds. Mayweather showcased his technical skills, but Maidana's relentless pressure kept the fight close.
In the end, Mayweather won the fight via a majority decision. Judge Michael Pernick scored the fight 114-114, a draw, while Judge Dave Moretti had it 116-112, and Burt A. Clements scored it 117-111 in favor of Mayweather. This victory marked the first time Mayweather had successfully defended his WBC welterweight title in his second reign.
Mayweather's win over Maidana earned him a guaranteed purse of $32 million, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Maidana earned $1.5 million, and both fighters shared a portion of the pay-per-view revenue. This was the ninth consecutive fight in which Mayweather earned at least $25 million, highlighting his status as one of boxing's biggest draws.
The fight was also for the WBA Super World Welterweight Title, which was vacant at the time. Mayweather's win earned him this title, as well as The Ring Magazine Welterweight Title, which he defended for the first time in his second reign.
