In a highly anticipated clash of two unbeaten world champions, Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg battled it out for the World Super-bantamweight title unification at Manchester Arena on Saturday, 27th February 2016. The fight lived up to its hype as both fighters left it all in the ring, but it was Frampton who emerged victorious by a split decision.
The two fighters had been on a collision course since the early days of their careers, and the tension between them was palpable in the lead-up to the fight. However, they showed mutual respect in the ring, with both fighters fighting hard but fair. The fight was a classic example of two skilled fighters pitting their wits against each other, with both fighters displaying exceptional boxing skills.
The early rounds of the fight were closely contested, with both fighters landing some telling blows. As the fight progressed, it was Frampton who started to take control, using his superior movement and footwork to evade Quigg's attacks while landing some heavy shots of his own. Quigg seemed to be struggling to find a way to break down Frampton's defense and was reduced to looking for a big right hand to catch his opponent off guard.
By the later rounds of the fight, it was clear that Frampton was in control, and he began to showboat a little, much to the delight of the crowd. Quigg, on the other hand, was starting to look increasingly desperate as he struggled to find a way to turn the fight in his favour. Despite his best efforts, it was Frampton who emerged victorious, with most observers believing that the judges' split decision was a fair reflection of the fight.
