Reasoning
At the age of 34 and after a 10-year pro career, you start looking at whether a fighter is coming to the end.
Â
Lyndon Arthur has won all the domestic belts, the British Commonwealth, and the European. He’s fought a three-fight trilogy with Anthony Yarde and challenged for a world title against Dimitri Bivol.Â
Â
Now he finds himself entering the lion’s den of his opponent’s backyard, defending his newly won European title at St Mary’s Football Club in Southampton.
Â
Lewis Edmondson, on the other hand, probably feels as fresh as a daisy. The 30-year-old from Southampton has one contentious loss on his record to Ukrainian Daniel Lapin at Wembley Stadium on the undercard of Daniel Usyk versus Daniel Dubois II, but also a win over Dan Aziz that brought him the British and Commonwealth light heavyweight titles.Â
Â
On experience alone, Arthur wins this fight at a canter. Of course, time doesn’t always allow that to be the case. Although the two are only four years apart in age, wear and tear do accumulate, and desire can diminish as the years pass. Edmondson, of course, has everything to gain. Taking the European title off the older man and adding it to his British and Commonwealth belts would probably see him on the fringes of a world title challenge in the not-too-distant future.Â
Â
But I haven’t seen anything in Lyndon Arthur’s recent performances to make me think that he's quite ready to call it a day on a very successful career. So with age and location going against him, I think Arthur will outbox Edmondson and come away with a points decision.Â
